Popsonian Guidelines and General Notes

Postby Pops on Mon Mar 03, 2008 12:22 am

Before I jump into listing all the things that are expected of our posters, I want to make sure we all know a couple of big things: We do not have a TOS (Terms of Service). We've got Popsonian Guidelines (PGS). Why? Simple: I can't possibly create a rule to cover every possible scenario that could happen here, so I won't be so conceited as to give it a name like that. We've got guidelines that we follow when we manage the forums and you've got guidelines to follow as participants in the forums (I'll get to these in a minute).

Next, we don't have "mods" or "admin" here. Yes, we've got people who perform the same tasks, but those names are polarizing and, honestly, we don't want you to dislike us before you know us. Here we've got "Friend" and "Forum Friends." A "Friend" is essentially a site manager. They can add forums and do all other sorts of cool stuff, but their main job is to make sure the Forum Friends are out in the forums doing their thing. The Forum Friends are your "moderator" type folks. Their job is to make sure nobody slips up and violates the PGS. Both of these groups are very open minded people and can be trusted in any capacity. If you have a problem that you need to discuss, these people are available to help you. If these groups make decisions that you disagree with, you are welcome to voice your opinion on the issue, but we ask that you do so in PM or e-mail to me at popennell@gmail.com.

Alright, now about the Popsonian Guidelines:

1. Be respectful to everyone, all the time, no matter what they did to you first. You can disagree with anyone about anything, but you have to speak in love. If you want respect, you've got to give respect.

2. God's not in the habit of spreading gossip, so no one here can accurately decide if someone else is a Christian. Don't judge each other

3. Don't give out medical advice. We can't prove you're a doctor, so providing that kind of advice could be dangerous. Please, just don't do it.

4. If you disagree with something that a Friend or Forum Friend has done, that's OK, just send an email or PM and we'll explain ourselves or try to correct the situation, when appropriate. In any case, you will always get a response from us and we are always willing to explain our actions to you. If you have a problem with a Friend or Forum Friend, you are to privately handle that situation. Posting information about that conflict in the public forums may result in disciplinary action.
Private Messages are meant to be just that, Private. Posting parts or the whole of Private Messages in the public forum without consent from both and/or all parties involved may result in disciplinary action.

5. No one here can pressure someone else to conform to their way of thinking. That's the beauty of Popsonian. We accept you 100% as you are, no questions asked. It's not about "us" or "our" beliefs; it's about you and what you add to our community as a unique individual.

6. Don't give out personal information about other people. It's not just illegal, it's in poor taste. If you don't have permission to share someone's e-mail address, phone number, house address, state and/or town of residence, first and/or last names, don't share it.

7. If you quote material, you have to cite it. If you don't know where it came from, use (unknown) for the citation. No plagiarism allowed. (Note: Links to the copyrighted material will suffice as citation)

8. Don't advertise for other forums or chat sites here, please. We didn't start this forum by flooding other chats and forums with information about our new site; we did it the hard way: word of mouth. If you can't do it the same way, you might consider a different business.

9. Don't attack people. If you want to debate ideas, that's great, but stick to the topic. Chances are that you won't know much about people here personally, so you won't know enough about them to try making personal attacks. It's immature and it's not good for the debate. Just don't do it.

10. Don't promote violence, hate, prejudice, or any of those other nasty things. We're open minded here and everyone is allowed here regardless of gender, sexual preference, age, race, ethnicity, origin of birth, or religion.

11. While in the Popsonian Forums, please avoid the use of vulgar, profane, or otherwise offensive text, image, video, or audio posts.

12. Please refrain from creating more than one member account here at Popsonian. If it is discovered that you have registered multiple accounts, the extra accounts will be deleted.

13. While you're here, you will probably experience a wonderful emotion called joy. Please, try not to scare the other members of your household with your giggle filled excitement.
