With this new PHPBB 3.0 platform, we've picked up a lot of features that we didn't have before. Among the most interesting changes to the forum for our registered members can be found inside the member profiles. Now, I don't mean the changes that happened inside the User Control Panel (link on the top left of the screen, below Portal and Board index). A lot of work went into that panel, but those changes are mostly aesthetic and they don't introduce a tremendously surprising amount of functionality. The interesting stuff is inside your user profile which is viewable by clicking your name in a post or by clicking the Members link on the top right side of the screen (beside the logout button), then finding your name (or someone else's).
You should immediately notice that this profile looks nothing like the ones with which we are familiar from the previous forum. The first thing that stands out is the Recent Activity Feed. This area contains updated information about your most recent posts. This is particularly useful if you don't remember where you posted something or if you want to follow a friend's posts. . .it's all conveniently located inside the profile.
Next, you'll notice below the activity feed that there is not a Shout It area. This essentially acts as a personal blog for each of our members. If you've got thoughts about something, you can post little bits there. Now, these posts are not made as announcements to the rest of the community so if it's something important or an actual question, you'll want to go ahead and make a thread for it somewhere in the forum. This is very similar to the comment function you see on Facebook, but it's limited to the profile area.
You will also see looking around that profile that you can add friends and "foes." Adding friends shows up in your profile and on the Portal page so you can easily find where your friends are if they're online, whether they're online, what posts they've made recently, etc. Adding someone to your Foes list does nothing but block them. Essentially, if someone is constantly saying things that offend you, instead of being offended, just add them to your Foes list and they will be ignored until you remove them from the list.
