This really happened- On the News

Postby Barbykins on Wed Dec 02, 2009 5:35 pm

We were watching the 5 o'clock news tonight and they were talking about the weather and the winter storms that might come up.
The electric comapny had some things to help you cope with the storm. The reporter said among other things . "if you are without power there are a few things you can do. Call the power company and they will tell you when the power will be restored OR ---GO ON LINE AT WWW.+++++ AND GET THE INFORMATION THERE.--- :?: The other reporter covered for him by adding That is only if you have a battery operated lap top!!!!
The Way To Heaven Was Nailed On A Cross .

Not only if you have a laptop, but you've got to have something that powers the modem to which your computer or wireless router is connected. You would actually need a battery back-up at home (and you'd be surprised, more and more people have these to help prevent serious data loss when using the computer... like if you're working on a major report for work and the power goes off, you won't lose whatever you're working on; you'll have time to save it first).

These battery packs are sold under the name of a UPS or Uninterrupted Power Supply. They won't typically power a computer for a very long time, but they can keep a PC running for around half an hour (on average). Laptops consume much less electricity and can run for more than an hour on a back-up power source.

In other news... that reporter is just downright oblivious.
