I had been waiting till the new year to restart this so here goes. Please stop in whenever you like and post things that lift you up or that you are thankful for, or even snippets of a devotional or a book that you especially enjoyed.

I'll start with this scripture verse, as it seems an appropriate one to begin the new year with:

Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace, comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work.~ 2 Thess. 2:16-17

And I am thankful for all of my popsonian friends!

:howdy: :howdy: :howdy: :howdy: :howdy: :howdy: :howdy: :howdy: :howdy: :howdy: :howdy: :howdy: :howdy: :howdy: :howdy: :howdy: :howdy: :howdy: :howdy: :howdy: :howdy: :howdy: :howdy: :howdy: :howdy: :howdy: :howdy: :howdy:

These emoticons reminded me of the movie Wall-E that my younger (autistic) son is so enamored of lately!
(Absolutely adorable!)

Once again, I pray that we all have a good year Lord.... thank you for your love and help us to focus on You and your love for us and share your love with others. Bless each person here in whatever they may need. Thank you Lord for all that you will do. In Jesus name amen.

This was in a newsletter I get and the verse about lifting up your eyes was also in something else I happened to read this morning, so I thought I'd post it here for encouragement to anyone who might need it:

".....Choose a psalm that is special to you and live it!

Psalm 121 is a wonderful psalm to memorize and act on. This psalm expresses assurance in God's unfailing presence, protection, and help:

I will lift up my eyes to the hills—From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord is your keeper; The Lord is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.

The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore. (nkjv)

Amen."

The Nature of God is the Nature of Love

Postby West on Tue Jan 06, 2009 1:16 am

Biblical example of Love: Romans 5:8 ...When we are at our worst (the Bad and the Ugly-remember-we want the Real You-ALL OF YOU- not the “everythings- well- in -my life-christian-facade” you...then.... At That Time........ and At That Moment........-God gave His very Best for You... Since 1 Jn 4:8 says God is Love;

Subsitute the word “God” for “Love” in 1 Cor 13 and this gives us profound insight as to His nature......”God is always patient with you. God is always kind to you..God is not rude to you..He is not self-seeking..He is never easily angered with you..God keeps No Record of wrongs.....He always protects you-always trusts you-always Hopes the best for you-always perseveres with you-and His Love for You Never Fails.”

Thank you Lord that Kika's computer is up and running. :) Please bless her as she goes to her new job tomorrow.....

I wasn't sure whether to put this on it's own thread but I just want to thank the Lord again here as I am so thankful that today is my youngest (autistic) son's birthday. He is 19 and such a blessing to us all. 19 years ago he almost literally didn't make it; he was born a preemie with undeveloped lungs. It was a total miracle as the Dr. had just expressed doubt to me on whether he would make it-- she had been up all night with him and it didn't look good. Right after this (about 11 a.m. on a Sunday morning) when half a dozen churches (and my sister in law and I by phone) were diligently praying, in the doctor's words "it seemed as soon as I called you (in my hospital room) he started turning around"-- and that was soon as we all diligently 'called God'! Thank you thank you Lord Jesus! Prayer does change things. Please everyone if you would, say a prayer sometime today that he has a Happy Birthday and continues to make good progress in the coming year . :) He is already all smiles about his birthday and wants us to go Denny's. :D

I've been thinking of this verse today, about God being able to do more than we can ask or think. Here's the 'long version' :):

Ephesians 3:20-21 (New King James Version)

20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Lord please do more than we can ask or think in the coming year for our family and all of my popsonian friends. May it be to thy honor and glory. In Jesus holy name amen.

If anyone wants to post some positive thoughts or answers to prayer that God gave you in the previous year, please feel free to share them here. :) I would like to keep this thread on page 1.

I read a cool quote the other day (I love cool quotes!): "the lowest ebb is the turn of the tide"; I forgot who said it now but it seemed to go along somehow (I thought) with the oft-quoted verse 'God works all things together for good to those who love God'. (Romans 8:28) My younger boys and I are also reading the Little House series (the recollections of Laura Ingalls Wilder) and in the story sometime after her sister Mary became blind due to illness, when the reverend Alden heard of it he says 'a brave spirit will turn all our afflictions to good' --which I thought that was interesting twist on the verse too---and also quoted 'He whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth", and that Mary's patience was an example to them all. Which to me is also the thought that God has a reason for everything that happens in the lives of his children. To me, in my life, this belief has been a comfort. btw I'm really enjoying the books-- for the second time-- as I read them years ago with my older boys. A fascinating window into history and surprisingly fast moving most of the time. ;) A definite 'good thing'.

God bless each person reading; help us to know more of your love; carry our burdens and bless us all in whatever is needed in our lives. And if possible bring us not into hard testing in the coming year, may your name be glorified in our lives and throughout the earth, through thy mercies and In Jesus name amen.

Lord please bless each person that is a part of this forum today. Thank you for the friendships represented here; may you bless them too, and may we continually bless you and share your blessings and love. In Jesus name amen.

I had been meaning to bump this up several times before this. Maybe I should call it the blessings thread. :)

I did get a blessing on Sunday I'd wanted to share briefly. I visited my old church where I'd had some problems awhile back-- my mother still goes there and she'd asked me to come along. Overall, I have to say I didn't feel particularly welcome (maybe it was me though but it is a large rather cliquish church) and during the service I prayed for someone to be genuinely glad to see me there. 'Someone' (that I didn't expect!) came up to me after the service to apologize for how she had behaved years ago, re: my autistic son, and it totally floored me. She said she had been wanting to make things right as she was sorry now about how things turned out. I don't think I will be going back too often but I do think I was meant to go there that day. God does answer prayers; sometimes it takes awhile. I don't expect I will ever get an apology from the person that hurt me the most there though--- but that is ok; I've moved on. :) Lord thank you again for this blessing.

I thought this might be a blessing for someone else as well:

I am trying to establish a good pattern/daily routine for the coming year (especially as it is the last day of January '09!) and i thought including a morning scripture reading/devotional might be a good idea; when I chose this site (saved in favorites) this seemed to confirm that to me. You can click on other devotionals on the lower right.

If anyone has any other sites that are a blessing to them, please post them here. (links and/or snippets).

“114 You are my refuge and my shield;
your word is my source of hope.” - Psalm 119:114 (New Living Translation)

Psalm 119 verse 114 is a reminder to us not only that the Lord is looking out for us, but also that He has left us a powerful source of hope and encouragement.

Reading Bible verses for encouragement is not just a good idea; according to the Psalmist it is the prescribed source of hope for those in need of comfort.

In 2 Corinthians 1 verses 3 through 7, Paul writes the following as he opens his second letter to the church in Corinth:

“3 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. 4 He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. 5 For the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ. 6 Even when we are weighed down with troubles, it is for your comfort and salvation! For when we ourselves are comforted, we will certainly comfort you. Then you can patiently endure the same things we suffer. 7 We are confident that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in the comfort God gives us.” - 2 Corinthians 1:3-7 (NLT, bold text mine)

How interesting that Paul tells the reader that God is the source of all comfort. Obviously, Paul’s purpose in this was to remind the reader that we should look to the Lord first, foremost, and always for comfort in our time of troubles.

So, if you’re hurting, pray to God that he provides you with comfort in your time of troubles. He’s there for you… turn to Him and let the Lord who loves you carry your burden.
